Meiling Lau is from New York and graduated from the University of Stony Brook with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a minor in Business Management. She later received her Masters's in Accountancy from the City University of New York at Baruch. She is a former Financial Controller at Cayuga Capital Management LLC, a real estate developer, and property management firm. She later became the Financial Controller at Eberhart Brothers, a family-owned real estate firm, managing over 1000 residential and commercial real estate units in New York City.
